Cape Breton Forge U13AAA Team Announcement

We are excited to announce that Sydney has been awarded hosting responsibilities for the U13AAA team for the upcoming three-year term.

At the U13AAA level, the team is a shared program between the Glace Bay Miners, New Waterford Sharks, and Sydney Steelers. Hosting responsibilities are reviewed every three years, with Sydney set to serve as host for a minimum of the next three seasons.

Because this team represents all three hockey organizations and their communities, we felt it was important to create an identity that everyone could share and take pride in. As a result, the team will not compete under the Sydney Steelers name at the U13AAA level. Instead, we are proud to introduce the Cape Breton Forge.

The Cape Breton Forge name reflects the history and connection shared by Glace Bay, New Waterford, and Sydney. For generations, the coal mines and steel plant helped shape these communities and the people who call them home. The name Forge represents the strength, resilience, hard work, and unity that have long been part of Cape Breton’s identity.

We look forward to building a strong, inclusive, and competitive U13AAA program that players, families, and supporters from all three hockey communities can be proud to call their own.

Coaching Applications

We are now accepting coaching applications for the Cape Breton Forge U13AAA team.

Anyone interested in applying for a Head Coach or Assistant Coach position is asked to complete the coaching application and submit it to the SMHA office at smha@eastlink.ca by August 26th at 4pm. Forms can be found on Sydney Minor Hockey webpage under Memos and Forms tab. It can be done electronically or paper format.

We are excited about this next chapter for U13AAA hockey in Cape Breton and look forward to seeing the Cape Breton Forge take the ice.
